Getting There

Health & Safety

There will be a first aid kit available at the Summer School campus. If you feel unwell, there is an excellent Medical Centre in Methven. In the interests of general safety, Summer School participants should take note of any School safety rules and follow them carefully while on campus.

Clothing

As Methven is close to the mountains and the weather can change quickly, we recommend you pack a jersey and raincoat in case it is cold and wet. But also be sure to bring your swimming gear, hat and suntan lotion!

Facilities

Methven township has excellent facilities for visitors including a medical centre, pharmacy, i-SITE Visitor Centre, bookshop, restaurants and cafes, supermarkets, NZ Post agency, Bank of New Zealand, antique shop, craft shop, petrol station, museum, sports massage clinic, gymnasium, physiotherapy clinic and boutique cinema.

Creche Facilities

Methven has an excellent Child Care Centre which will be open during the week, and is happy to look after your children if they have spaces available. Methven Pre-school can be contacted on 03 302 8564. Pre-booking is essential.

Sporting Facilities

Methven has a stunning 18-hole golf course, as well as a croquet lawn, squash courts, swimming pool, tennis courts and a bowling green (usual green and court fees apply). All facilities are available for use by Summer School students.

Outdoor Activities

Whilst you are in Methven area, we urge you to enjoy the local scenes, walk thru native bush, take a jet boat ride up the Rakaia Gorge, take a helicopter ride or a hot air balloon ride, try out horse riding, trout and salmon fishing or enjoy one of the many superb local walkways.
