AIDEN BERRY - HAVE- A-GO GOLF & BEGINNERS GOLF

Originally from the UK Aiden Berry immigrated in 1994.He grew up playing golf in Marlborough before moving to Christchurch to complete his Professional Apprenticeship at the Harewood Golf Club. Aiden is now the Head Professional at Ferrymead Golf, the latest golfing complex in the South Island and also Head Professional at the Harewood Golf Club. His role is coaching all age groups and abilities at both facilities to assist people in reaching their goals. Aiden is a member of the NZPGA.

JASON TILLEY - INTERMEDIATE GOLF

Jason Tilley has been teaching golf for over 15 years, working with all age groups. He grew up playing golf in Nelson and started his professional career teaching and playing within the industry. After turning professinal Jason played the New Zealand ProAm circuit for a couple of years, finishing 10th on the Order of Merit.
Jason is currently based at Garden City Golf, where he has been the Head Pro for nearly 7 years.  His role is primarily coaching and he has enjoyed sharing in the successes of his students.

KEVIN SMITH - ADVANCED GOLF

Kevin Smith is a Class AAA member of the NZPGA  as well as recently becoming a TPI Coach - Level 1, and has been a Golf Professional for over 28 years.He is currently one of five High Performance Coaches for the New Zealand Golf Association, the Wellington Men’s and Women’s Coach as well as the coach for the Wellington Junior Golf Academy. Kevin is a past National coach for Women's Golf New Zealand.

Kevin is the author of "The Complete Guide to Great Golf" and writes for the NZ Golf Magazine.

Kevin enjoys working with all golfers of all levels, from total beginners to NZ representatives.with a number of his golfers now playing professionally.  He has a true passion for golf and sharing his knowledge with those who wish to improve their golfing ability. Kevin’s philosophy is simple; golf is a game to be enjoyed and that there is no need to suffer faults that can be changed. Having fun whilst learning is also a big part of his golf schools.

CHAPPIE CHAPMAN - FLY FISHING

As one of New Zealand's best known fly fishing guides Chappie explains the passion that he has for fishing.  "I caught my first fish at age six. It was not a trout, but I discovered fly-fishing at thirteen. Where I grew up, there was a mountain, from whose graceful slopes flowed no fewer than three hundred streams, most of which held trout. Some of those streams were small, and that's where I started to learn my craft. To this day my preferred fishing is with a dry-fly in a small stream.”

Chappie has been guiding anglers for over twenty years, and runs about thirty fly-fishing schools each year. He spent a good number of years in the fishing tackle industry, both at wholesale and retail, during which he had the opportunity to be involved with design and development of some of the more popular brands of fly-fishing tackle on the market today.  Chappie is one of a select few in NZ to have a qualification from the Federation of Fly-fishers (FFF) U.S.A. as a Certified Fly casting instructor, and he is also a Certified Sage Fly casting instructor.

GLEN CURRIE - INTRODUCTION TO MULTISPORT / KAYAKING

Glen Currie has a Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) and currently teaches Outdoor Education and Physical Education at Mount Hutt College. He is passionate about anything based in the outdoors from snowboarding to rock climbing, and is also passionate about sharing these pursuits with others, especially youth. His sporting background includes snowboarding extensively in his teens, including competing at national level in Halfpipe and boardercross.  
Glen spent 2007 travelling which saw him coaching and instructing snowboarding in Colorado, trekking in Tanazania and cycle touring in France, Switzerland and Italy. Since returning Glen’s major focus in sport has been multisport and adventure racing and he has competed very sucessfully in the Peak to Peak, Mountain to Mountain, Christchurch Multisport Race, Frostbuster Multisport Race, Rakaia Kayak River Race, Hanmer 12 Hour Mountain Bike, Mt Isobel Challenge and Ashburton Duathlon Series.

DI SKELLY HERON - CULTIVATING CREATIVITY

Di Skelly Heron has worked as professional artist for 42 years. Her career has included 20 solo exhibitions throughout Asia, NZ, USA and Australia. She was awarded the Telstra Business Owner of the Year NT in1995 among numerous other awards and commissions. Di has been teaching, facilitating workshops in art therapy and mentoring young artists for 20 years She leads an extraordinarily creative life and enjoys sharing her experience and knowledge with others. GRACE DYKSTRA - OILS AND ACRYLICS

Grace Dykstra has been teaching art for over 15 years, and has established notable art schools including Art Metro in Christchurch. As a successful award winning artist herself, Grace has established a method of painting that allows the artist to know exactly how their painting will turn out, simply by being empowered by the skills.  These are the skills she will be sharing with you on this workshop.

SANDRA MORRIS - CHILDRREN'S STORY ILLUSTRATIONS

After Sandra graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts, she worked as an art editor and illustrator on the School Journals and Maori language journals for School Publications in Wellington. She gained her Masters at Elam in 1990 where she completed her first picture book One Lonely Kakapo- this won her the Russell Clark award for illustration in1992.
Sandra has a strong interest in plant and wildlife as shown in the books she has written and illustrated - Discovering New Zealand Birds, which was a finalist in both the Aim Children’s Book Awards and the Non Fiction Library awards;  Pohutukawa - a children’s book about the animals and birds that visit and feed on the Pohutukawa, and Godwit’s Journey - the story of the bird’s migration to and from the Alaskan tundra and New Zealand.
From 1996-2003 Sandra worked as a designer for Shortland Publications where she was responsible for the design of early reading books and for recruiting and encouraging new illustrators. After a trip to the Bologna Children s book Fair in 2001,where she met many international illustrators and publishers, Sandra started up her own illustration agency promoting NZ illustrators overseas www.illustration.co.nz
In 2006 she won Lecturer of the Year Award for the Design Department at MasseyUniversity. Sandra now teaches privately and with continuing education at AucklandUniversity and continues to write and illustrate children’s books and travels as much as she can to interesting places to sketch.

SUE CURRIE - WATERCOLOURS

Sue is a Christchurch born artist who exhibits regularly in New Zealand and is the recipient of numerous awards. She trained as a graphic designer and worked in design and illustration in New Zealand and Australia and has been painting fulltime since 1975.
The way in which Sue captures the light in her paintings and the use of colour signifies her individual style. Often included is accurate rendering of detail. In her watercolours, colour is applied with a series of glazes and the translucent paints produce the clear crisp work that Sue is recognised for. She has built up a large repertoire of paintings from seascapes to mountain scenes, buildings and figures.
'To experience the place and capture the moment is the first step in creating a good painting,' Sue says.

MIKE GLOVER - PASTELS

Mike Glover is an established Canterbury artist.  He lives and works in Springston South near Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere.  In 1995 he initiated and co-curated the Hinewai Reserve Charity Art Exhibition at Picturesque Gallery in Akaroa and later that year became a full-time artist.  His work has sold to many collectors in New Zealand, the UK, Australia and North America.
Mike’s art work is popular for its bold, often stylized images of land, sky and water. He is particularly known for his pastel landscape paintings which combine intensity of colour with the tonal sensitivity of the dry pastel medium. He draws inspiration from his love of the New Zealand landscape (especially that of Canterbury), native plants and animals, and his commitment to conservation and community. JO OGIER - PRINTMAKING

Jo Ogier’s work focuses on the natural world around her and reflects her strong conservational and ecological ties with it.  One of Jo’s main passions is working artistically in this field, including in many of the more remote corners of New Zealand such as the Subantarctic islands, Rakiura/ Stewart Island, Fiordland and more recently the South Island high country.
After graduating from the Otago Polytechnic School of Art in 1993 with a Diploma of Fine Arts with Honours Jo undertook a Graduate Diploma in Plant and Wildlife Illustration at the University of Newcastle, NSW (1995), and in 2000 completed her Master of Fine Arts at Otago.  Jo has received a number of scholarships and awards and has exhibited extensively. She is based at Sumner in Christchurch where she works full time on her art.

CARLA WATSON - SCREEN PRINTING ON FABRIC

Carla Watson is a full time textile printer. She trained at Christchurch Polytechnic graduating in 2002 with a Bachelor of Design. Her business 'Imprint' has been going for 7 years and specialises in printing onto hosiery products as well as working closely with NZ designers to help with specialty screen-printing. Her love for screen printing overflows into her workshops, with passionate lesson plans and a fun hands-on approach to fabric printing. "Being able to pass on my love and passion for fabric printing is such an amazing opportunity.....seeing hidden creative talents unlocked in my students is such a buzz" says Carla.

BRIAN ADAM - SILVER JEWELLERY MAKING

Brian Adam describes himself as ‘a jeweller with an eye for fun’. Spectacles are one of the most interesting areas of body adornment for him and the most humorous while his earrings and rings are also quite light-hearted. His work moves between the loose organics of molten metals and the computer precision of functional spectacles. Brian studied at the School of Design at Wellington Polytechnic before opening his studio in Titirangi, Auckland. He has worked with a number of New Zealand jewellers and lectured at the Manukau Institute of Technology, Auckland. ALI BROWN - FLAX WEAVING

Ali Brown's flax weaving incorporates both contemporary and traditional techniques, and her original flaxwork designs have found homes worldwide. She tutors flax weaving through her own regular workshops as well as workshops in community and school programmes and art and craft events. Ali's book Weaving Flowers from New Zealand flax, will be available for purchase at the workshop. JACKIE RYAN - FLORAL DESIGNS

Jackie Ryan has been working with flora for 20 years. She describes herself as an everyday person who loves floral design and enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion with people of all ages. Jackie recently won the public vote at the South Canterbury Designer of the Year.

DUANE ALEXANDER - MAKEUP FOR THE OVER 60s

After a very traditional upbringing on a sheep farm in New Zealand and working as a builder for 16 years, Duane followed a gut feeling and decided to pursue a career in makeup artistry. Training at the Greasepaint School of Makeup in London, he gained valuable experience in the T.V and Film industry. Returning to New Zealand in 2004, he worked selling makeup at various counters, developing a deep empathy with women and their perceptions of beauty. Combining this empathy with his skills and a healthy dose of humour and honesty, he discovered his passion for helping women discover their unique beauty — and more importantly, their self confidence.When Duane, together with his business partner and fellow makeup artist, Martyn Virtue, discovered FACE Stockholm, with its message of empowering women, they decided to open the first FACE Stockholm store in Australasia in 2005. 

“Beauty, by today’s standard, is more often than not created with the help of technology. In some cases the images of beautiful women we see in magazines are 100% computer enhanced,” says Duane.
 

NIK MAVROMATIS - GOURMET SAUSAGE-MAKING

Nik Mavromatis has been working as a chef for over 10 years and has worked in Christchurch, Melbourne, London, Atlanta and New York. With a Greek family background he has specialised in Mediterranean Cuisine and travelled throughout the area. He has hosted over 100 cooking classes, writes food articles and is even currently making wine in Waipara. His passion for food is infectious and he wants everyone to share in the pleasures of good food and wine. His cooking style is based around simplicity and seasonality with a focus on learning good cooking techniques so you can get the most out of quality produce. Nik is currently employed as the manager of Mediterranean Food Company in Christchurch and owns The Real Sausage Company, producing preservative-free sausages from free-range animals.

KIRSTEN TAYLOR - ART OF HOMEBREW

Kirsten Taylor has had 18 years in the brewing industry, previously working for Lion Nathan and now as a consultant Brewer. She has 4 years experience as a New Product Development Brewer for Maltexo Ltd. (Lion Nathan's malt extract and home brewing division) and has extensive knowledge of craft/home brewing.

KATHERINE MOWBRAY - CHEESEMAKING

Katherine has been presenting cheese making courses in New Zealand for the past 20 years.  Practical and concise, her courses have inspired people from all walks of life. Katherine feels it is important to keep this ancient art of cheese making alive and well and in the grasp of people's hands today. It is Katherine's wish to educate people about cheese and milk delicacies, so that people have the confidence and skills to make their own.

EMILY CROSS - GLUTEN FREE COOKING

Emily Cross has been a chef for 26 years. She completed a 4 year culinary apprenticeship at Christchurch Polytechnic and won top apprentice chef in New Zealand. She then travelled overseas for a number of years and worked in a variety of prestigious establishments in different countries cooking for number of famous identities. She returned to New Zealand and began her career as a professional cookery lecturer for 15 years. She also co-hosted two distant education television programmes and was the team manager for winning the students chefs team at Toque D’or Salon Culinaire.

In recent years Emily has held a number of positions as Executive chef at Darjon Vineyards; food consultant for two inner city food establishments; and most recently as Jo Seagar’s cook school assistant and associate tutor in Oxford.
