About the Tutor

"I’ve worked in engineering, welding, furniture making, kitchen cabinetry, fishing, tour guiding, managed a back-packers hostel…I can turn my hand to most things. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so whatever I do, I do well, but nothing really ‘gelled’ until I discovered this talent."

Shodie suffered a brain injury in a motorcycle accident in Australia 8 years ago. He now works from his parent’s home just a few km’s north of Leeston, using as much re-claimed, re-purposed, salvaged, found and ‘dug up’ materials as possible. The studio was his first reclamation, turning an old farm outbuilding into a workable space.

He knocks on farmhouse doors and asks for any old barbed wire or metal they might want to get rid of. He is amazed at what is just sitting about rusting, or buried on the farm!  Shodie predominantly works with barbed wire, but he also uses other media including metal shavings, sheet metal, corrugated iron, number eight wire, old chain saws, old wheels and more; pretty much anything that he can get his hands on.  Watch for Shodie's entry into the Kiwi Icons section of the wearable Art Competition
