GLASS FUSING: MAKE A SMALL ART PIECE
This course includes one day full fuses with two layers of glasses being melted together.
Students will learn how to cut glass, how a kiln works, and how to prepare a kiln. You will make a small art pieces that will be fired in the kiln overnight.
On day two, the kiln will be opened to reveal the artwork - always an exciting moment. Students will make another art piece in the kiln that will be fired at a lower temperature so it can retain some of the texture of the glass piece. This will be available for pick up the next day or can be shipped by arrangement.
This course has very limited spaces, so get in quick!
Introducing Tash Sim
Tash is the first female glazier in New Zealand. After leaving College she was encouraged to learn a trade and started an apprenticeship as a glazier. She immediately loved her job and knew she had chosen the right trade.
She was eager to learn everything she could about glass, especially the creative side of it. Twenty-three years later she is still enjoying glass as much as in the beginning and is still learning every day.
"It is a great feeling opening the kiln in the morning and discovering your creations," she says.
Tash had d hugely successful exhibition in 2026 right here in Methven at the Mt Hutt Memorial Hall art gallery.
