INTRODUCTION TO BEEKEEPING

Always loved the thought of having a hive in the back garden? This is your chance to join Andrew for a practical first time experience with bees. The day will cover the construction and management of a hive, queen rearing and understanding of major diseases.

For the day you will need a beekeeping suit (veils will be provided) and strong gardening gloves to protect you from being stung. You can borrow equipment by contacting a local apiarist for the day, buy one from “NZ Beeswax” at Orari or check out Trade Me.

Andrew will provide everything else you need for an informative and exciting day!

Andrew Currie

Andrew has been bee keeping for over 20 years and holds a current DECA (Disease Elimination Conformity Agreement) Certificate. He is passionate about sharing with people his knowledge of bees and raising the awareness of how important bees are to our environment.

Bees are fascinating creatures and their colonies are too. From their perfect honey comb construction to how the colony manages brood production and queen replacement, beekeeping is a rewarding and fascinating hobby!
