SIMPLE BINDING TECHNIQUES FOR SELF-PUBLISHERS

Learn a variety of ways to bind your own work. These are simple techniques for those wishing to self publish text, pictures, zines, or pamphlets.

Students will learn to sew, or glue their book, learn a few different ways of putting together single section pamphlets without staples, and cover a book with either their own work, or small amounts of cloth and board.

Bring along any printed material on good quality paper if you would like to use your own imagery for a cover.

This workshop is designed to send you home with a collection of samples made by you, from which you can then do your own books rather than binding your actual work on the day. However, if you have extra copies of your work that you would like to try these techniques on, then bring them along also.

Introducing Tessa Warburton

Tessa graduated from CPIT (now ARA) in 2000 with a Bachelor of Craft Art, majoring in Printmaking and Sculpture. She had previously studied and gained a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology at Canterbury University in 1993, and also studied Bookbinding under Don Hampshire for five years in Christchurch.
From 2001 until 2018, she worked as a Limited Edition Printmaker for Marian Maguire at PaperGraphica (now PG Gallery 192). She has printed for many well-known artists, such as John Pule, Gretchen Albrecht, and Bill Hammond. During this time she was also working as a Bookbinder at home, and creating her own art works from paper, waste from bookbinding, and other materials.
Tessa teaches privately at home and out and about as a Bookbinder. She has recently been teaching drawing to a group of Home School students in Oxford.
She is involved with her local gallery as a volunteer, as well as with a group of Papermakers based at Oxford Gallery.
