WEAVE A RIBBED BASKET with Tamar Guse

Weave a beautiful medium-sized, ribbed basket using reeds, vines and seagrass. You will complete your unique pieces and learn the basic techniques for reproducing these useful baskets at home.

Students will need to bring a pair of secateurs and an apron/ old towel to protect their clothing.

Tamar Guse is a fibre artist creating contemporary handwoven baskets and sculptures.

Growing up in New Zealand, Tamar has explored many art forms over the years. Fibre Art has captured her imagination with its texture, form and endless possibilities for creation. She is inspired by nature and this comes out in her artwork with incorporated natural elements such as driftwood, vines and antlers. While traditional baskets are good for practicing technique, her true passion is weaving sculptural forms that echo the environment around her.

Her current projects are growing her own willow to weave with and weaving large-scale sculptures. Tamar has been teaching basket weaving workshops for a number of years in North Canterbury, and her work has been featured in galleries and exhibitions throughout New Zealand .
