WILLOW BASKET WEAVING WITH DRIFTWOOD

Learn how to weave an asymmetrical medium-sized round basket with a driftwood handle! In this two-day workshop, you will learn how to prepare the base, weave the sides, finish the border, and attach your own unique driftwood handle.

This workshop is designed for beginners, and no prior experience is necessary. However, please note that willow weaving does require some hand strength and dexterity.
Students are to bring secateurs and an apron. All materials and tools will be provided.

NB: Lunch add-on is for two lunches

Inotrducing Tamar Guse

Tamar Guse is a fibre artist creating contemporary handwoven baskets and sculptures.

Growing up in New Zealand, Tamar has explored many art forms over the years. Fibre Art has captured her imagination with its texture, form and endless possibilities for creation. She is inspired by nature and this comes out in her artwork with incorporated natural elements such as driftwood, vines and antlers. While traditional baskets are good for practicing technique, her true passion is weaving sculptural forms that echo the environment around her.

Her current projects are growing her own willow to weave with and weaving large-scale sculptures. Tamar has been teaching basket weaving workshops for the past four years in North Canterbury and her work has been featured in galleries and exhibitions throughout New Zealand .
