WILLOW OBELISK AND BIRD FEEDER WEAVING WORKSHOP with Tamar Guse

Come join us for a delightful day of willow weaving! This fun and friendly course is all about exploring your creativity with Tamar from Amberley Willow Farm as your guide. You'll get to learn the techniques to make two lovely projects using sustainable willow.

In the morning, you will learn to weave your very own beautiful obelisk plant support. This lovely structure is both functional and decorative in your garden, made from homegrown willow for your climbing plants to grow in style.

After lunch, we'll dive into weaving a rustic birdfeeder with a wooden base, perfect to support your small garden birds in winter! These beginner-friendly projects are not only enjoyable but also introduce you to skills you can use in other willow crafts down the road.

Willow weaving is a wonderful and meditative craft that helps you connect with nature and tradition. Please note this workshop involves some standing, moving around, and a bit of hand strength is needed.

Please bring an apron, gardening gloves, secateurs, a low stool (if you have trouble kneeling), and a vehicle long enough to transport your obelisk home.

Tamar Guse is a fibre artist creating contemporary handwoven baskets and sculptures.

Growing up in New Zealand, Tamar has explored many art forms over the years. Fibre Art has captured her imagination with its texture, form and endless possibilities for creation. She is inspired by nature and this comes out in her artwork with incorporated natural elements such as driftwood, vines and antlers. While traditional baskets are good for practicing technique, her true passion is weaving sculptural forms that echo the environment around her.

Her current projects are growing her own willow to weave with and weaving large-scale sculptures. Tamar has been teaching basket weaving workshops for a number of years in North Canterbury and her work has been featured in galleries and exhibitions throughout New Zealand .
